Position Overview

Behavioral Health Interventions of Greater St. Louis is seeking an energetic, diligent, self-motivated and articulate team player to join its staff as a Program Supervisor Intern.
This position offers the opportunity to participate in a broad range of program operations as part of a professional, team-oriented organization.

The Clinical supervisor-Intern provides oversight for the assigned program(s) of the organization and helps the such program(s) reach their stated goals. As a program supervisor, your responsibilities include maintaining the quality of the organization's programs and overseeing the budget and staff for assigned program(s).

The Clinical Supervisor Intern will play a hands-on role in the foundation's grantmaking and administration, working in close partnership with the foundation executive director and grants administrator to carry out and manage the clinical functions of the organization's activities to ensure effectiveness and efficiency.
The role involves direct involvement in the grantmaking processes with nonprofit organizations, grant applicants and grantees; serving as a technical and professional resource both within and outside the foundation; and with executive director oversight responsibility for ongoing operations of the foundation including but not limited to research, compliance and communications related to Program Supervision and reporting, vendor management and business administration.
Applicants who have previous program, direct-clinical care, multi-program administration, and communications experience are preferred.

A solid understanding of clinical interventions stratagies as well as other related clinical program operations is a requirement.
The position will begin mid-summer 2014 to assist the organization's president/CEO with specific tasks, which include creating/updating the clinical administration portion of employee manuals and handbooks, event planning,transition correspondence, publication management and special projects related to grantmaking, to be further defined upon hire. In 2022 and beyond, the role will be expanded as described. This position reports to the Cheif Executive Officer.




Scope of Responsibilities



  • Provide clinical oversight of multiple organizations programs to assure the compliance of quality assurence metrices as it applies to providing ongoing quality clincal services by qualified direct sercvice staff.

  • Assist the executive director in examining, developing, implementing, documenting and communicating the goals, priorities and values of the foundation.

  • Serve as a liaison between the organization, programs, individuals, families, and the overall community responding to inquiries as needed.

  • Review and assess performances of multiple programs, practicum/internship applications, and cover letters of perspect clincial leadership employees and practicum/intership students.

  • Research prospective partnering service applicant organizations, compile information specific to their proposals, collect background information.

  • Aid in the research and investigation of other clincial agencies applying for partnership and their histories based on priorities of the foundation.

  • Conduct site visits: research, schedule, prepare, document/report.

  • Attend community events and luncheons, as applicable.

  • Participate in internal team review of grant applications/proposals.

  • Prepare and present written proposal summaries, analyses and recommendations for the executive director and the board of directors.

  • Oversee the development and preparation of clinical components of grant docket materials for multiple programs.

  • Participate in the development and implementation of an evaluation program for the supervision of clinical services programs, their supervisors, and related funding opportunites.

  • Develop working knowledge of latest developed and evidence-based clinical interventions and, understand their applications, and the supervison thereof.

  • Participate in clinical care networks. Stay abreast and monitor trends in the mental health treatment and care arenas.

    Administration & Finance



  • Aid in draft of budget for annual clinical care expenditures in consultation with executive director; assist with preparation of agency’s entire annual budget.

  • Maintain updated versions of organization's, governments,partnering agencies's and funders compliance documents as required by law (for example,board meeting minutes, organization's bylaws,DBH policies and required proceedures etc.)and communicate with executive director to ensure quality assurence.

  • Ensure the maintenance of appropriate client treatment records and preparation of required internal/external audit reports.

  • Work with executive director to assist in reconciliation of program expenditures .

  • Work with executive director and bookkeeper/accountant for timely preparation of annual returns and related reports.

  • Ensure that the clinical programs are efficiently organized to comply with the organization/govenment/funders processes and requirements, in accordance with legal and internal policies.

  • Aid in the formation and implementation of standard operating procedures and client service policies; taking into account state and federal changes in personnel administration and related mandated provider procedural changes.

  • Assist with administration of benefit programs including preparation and maintenance of associated records and reports.

  • Maintain personnel job descriptions, employee handbooks/manuals and employment policies.

  • Oversee updating of clinical and related documents at online locations (i.e., field/sector surveys and questionnaires, foundation directories).

  • Provide supervision, support, coaching and training for junior-level staff in conjunction with executive director.

  • Manage and support organization's events and program activities (i.e., board meetings, educational sessions, receptions, etc.) as required.

  • Assist with special projects managed by the executive director.

  • Provide coverage and back up for other administrative tasks and grants administration, as needed.


  • Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Counseling or Social Work and 5 years of relevant experience, and 3-5 years of clinical program administration.

  • Experience in direct clincial interventions administration, clincial program supervision,preferably in a mental health setting
  • .
  • Knowledge of best practices legal, as well as state and federal regulatory requirements for licensure and funding;understanding of IRS regulations regarding public Charities and other non-profits.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Clinical Environment Management software and familiarity with specific evidence-based interventions, including preparation of data displays and reports.

  • Salary and Application Information



    Salary range is $53,000-$61,500 FTE, depending on qualifications and experience. Excellent benefits include health, dental and 401(k) retirement plan. Position begins as soon as possible.
